The excellent dinner menu at La Sovana’s restaurant also offers a delightful and varied menu of noble wines from the region, an excellent incentive for wine buffs. The facilities at La Sovana include a stunning swimming pool, a Jacuzzi just by the pool, two all-weather tennis courts and even a small fishing lake surrounded by majestic cypress trees. There are also plenty of paths for walking and cycling. If you can tear yourself away from the property, the friendly-staff is close at hand with helpful tips on sightseeing itineraries.
A short drive will bring you to Montepulciano, noted for its fine wines and medieval architecture, and a second famous wine centre, Orvieto, lies just a further afield across the Umbrian border. Sailors and keen fishermen can spend a day on lovely Lake Trasimeno, while golfers have a choice of two 18-hole courses within a short drive.
